Brantenbergska

Brantenbergska (The house of Brantenberg).

Brantenbergska

Address: Hamngatan 6
Block: Kronan Större 5

The dyer Robert Brantenberg built his house by the harbor in 1846. The house of Brantenberg was a private residence, but it was later turned into an organ factory. The self-taught A. G. Rålin, designed an organ in 1885, before going to America to learn more about organ manufacturing. He returned in 1892 and started “A. G. Rålin´s Organ and Piano factory” in this house. The business remained here until the year 1901, when a new factory building was built next to the house of Brantenberg. A. G. Rålin later died in 1906. In 1933 “The United Piano Factories” in Arvika, took over the business and moved the production to Arvika. For many years “Engers shirt factory” ran their business in the large factory building, as well as several other small businesses. The factory building was torn down in 1983.

In 1982 the house was renovated. It was painted yellow and converted into private housing, after previously been used as a premises for a warehouse and offices.

The house connects perfectly to 19th century high rise architecture and is an important part of the landscape along the harbour.

It was declared a historical monument in 1978.
