Lilliestiernska

Lilliestiernska (The house of Lilliestierna).

Lilliestiernska i Åmål

Address: Kyrkogatan 19
Block: Kronan Större 1

The courtyard was built in the 1780s by the merchant and mill owner Johan Åberg, who lived 1750-1813. He was the grandson of Mayor Anders Åberg, the ancestor of the Åberg family.

August Edvard Lilliestierna, the man who gave the house its name, did not live here until much later. He had previously been a Major but became Postmaster in Åmål in 1843. He worked until 1874 when he wrote his book "The memory of an eighty-year-old". A new edition of the book was published by the local newspaper “Provinstidningen Dalsland” in 1978.

Åmål's Elementary School for girls had its premises in the house of Lilliestiernska between 1883 and 1897.

The property is now privately owned.

It was declared a historical monument in 1978.
