Kungsberget

In the heart of central Åmål is Kungsberget.

Pergola på Kungsberget

A lookout point and park with a beautiful view of the city. On the mountain is also Kungsberg Church, which belongs to Åmål's Missionary Parish.

Galgåsen
In the 17th century, the city's gallows was located some distance up the northern slope of the ridge and a bit further away was the whipping post. After the equipment were moved there, the ridge was named Galgåsen. This was a well-chosen place for a place of punishment and execution, because right at the foot of the ridge, in an area called “Sann” or “Sandlyckan”, was "Åhmula backe" - Åmåls marketplace since the Middle Ages.

Kungsberget
In the middle of the 19th century, the site was transformed into a park. Since the mountain had become an attraction with the erection of “Kungsstenen”, the more appropriate name "Kungsberget" was suggested. In 1948, a stone was also erected in memory of the soldiers that died during the Thirty Years' War.
