Hamngatan 4

To the west of the house of Brantenberg is a property at Hamngatan 4.

Hamngatan 4

Address: Hamngatan 4
Block: Kronan större 4

The house was built by the timber merchant and ship owner Gustaf Andersson in 1901 and is made out of exquisite, hand-picked timber. The property, with small carpentry details on the walls, is a fine example of the lavish panel architecture from the turn of the century. The hand-carved stone base is a shining example of skillful masonry work.

The house has a long history. The Editor Wilhelm Rahmn, who after the fire in 1901 had his premises in the old principal residence, moved his printing house to Hamngatan 4. He printed the newspaper "Åmåls-Posten" here for 2 years, until his new printing house was completed in 1904 in the house of Rahmn at Torggatan 2.

Hamngatan 4 has since then been a residential building. The southern extension was built in 1922 and Gustaf Andersson sold his property in the 1940s.

The property is now privately owned.
