Kungsbron
Kungsbron (King'sBridge)was one of the first bridges in the city of Åmål and was initially just a simple wooden bridge.
Kungsbron was formerly called Bondbron (the Farmer's Bridge). Farmers would cross this bridge with their carts fully loaded with agricultural goods and cattle for sale in the city's market. It was originally the responsibility of the peasants to keep the bridge in good condition so that it was accessible with horse and carriage.
The current bridge was built between the years 1931 and 1932. The engineer Baltzar von Platen's proposal was adopted at a cost of SEK 43 000. The bridge was made with a superstructure of reinforced concrete. The bridge roadway was coated with asphalt, the sidewalks with tiles and the bridge had a width of 7.5 meters. The architect D. Dahl in Stockholm designed the bridge railing that was made of gray granite and wrought iron.
In the 1960s, the bridge was widened, and the beautiful railing was removed.
